Dumai City is a town in Riau Province, Indonesia. 188 km from the town of Pekanbaru. Dumai City is the second largest city of Indonesia after Manokwari. Recorded in history, Dumai, a small hamlet on the eastern coast of Riau province, has started to squirm a pearl in the east coast of Sumatra. Dumai is the result of the expansion of the Bengkalis District.
Inaugurated as a city on April 20, 1999, by Act no. 16 1999 April 20, 1999 after it was became an administrative city (City of) in the Bengkalis District. At the beginning of its formation, Dumai City consists of only three districts, 13 wards and nine villages with a population of only 15 699 inhabitants with a density of 83.85 people/km2.
Dumai is one of the main entrance to the Mainland Riau area which used to be only a small fishing town dibelahan east coast of Sumatra. But now this city has changed and is growing rapidly to become a City of Port Cities Oil Industry and equipped with oil storage tanks and other installations.
Geographically, Dumai City is in a position of 23-1 º º 24'23 "E and 101 º 28'13 north latitude with an area of 1727.385 km ², consisting of three regional districts with the following boundaries:
North: Rupat, Bengkalis Regency
South: District Mandau
West: Bangko District
East: District of Bukit Batu
Dumai City consists of lowlands and highlands of the situation leads to the south coast Rupat with flat topography. Each year the City of Dumai experiencing the changing climate is strongly influenced by climate and sea with an average rainfall between 200-300, with two seasons, namely dry season from March to August and the rainy season from September to Februarid with an average temperature air ranged between 24 º -33 º C.
Dumai City is one of the most strategic port city in Riau Province. As a gate on the east coast of Sumatra, Dumai port plays an important role in serving the export activities of domestic and imports of goods and passengers as well as overseas countries such as Malaysia Malacca. This port consists of nine units, four of which were managed by the Chevron oil company and five units managed by the Government. Currently import export activities generate as much money as U.S. $. 5770.13 million per year.

According to data from the year 2009, the total population is 230 191 Dumai City soul with an average density of 76 inhabitants / km ², with a growth rate of 2.7% per year. Islam is a religion which embraced the majority of the population.

Now a rapidly growing city, Dumai has been equipped with good facilities and infrastructure such as transportation facilities (Highways, Ports and Airport), Electricity, Banking, Advanced Telecommunications Services (including Cellular Phone and Internet Network).
In order to improve facilities and services to businesses and the general public, Dumai City government has established an Integrated Services Office under the coordination of the Investment Office Dumai City with cost savings objectives, timing and procedures of licensing services. This office serves to simplify and speed up the licensing business.
